Speedy Romeo Italian & Pizza
376 Classon Avenue Brooklyn, NY 11238
(718) 230-0061
http://speedyromeo.com/ MAKE RESERVATIONS
The pizzeria opened in January in a former auto-parts shop. The cooks wear striped mechanics’ shirts with name patches sewed on. Giant industrial fans loom above sleek banquettes and perky orange-seated chairs.
The pizza is thin-crust, fired in a wood-burning oven but more chewy than charred. A dusting of ultra-soft double-zero flour, pollenlike, throws in some crunch. It is a fine canvas for smoky house-made mozzarella engulfing wild mushrooms and splattered with a runny fried egg ($16), or curling petals of soppressata and fennel.

The Vanderbilt Restaurant & Bar
570 Vanderbilt avenue, about a 10 minute walk from the guesthouse. The Vanderbilt is casual with lower prices ($4 to $16, for marinated skirt steak), and an emphasis on globally inspired small plates and classic and original cocktails. There is a meat smoker on the premises, and an array of charcuterie, from blood sausage with avocado and pork rinds to jagerwurst with German potato salad. The jerky is made in-house, and so are the berry-filled doughnuts.

Locanda Vini e Olii-Italian
http://www.locandavinieolii.com/
129 Gates Ave., Brooklyn, NY 11238
at Cambridge Pl.
A beautifully restored 130-year-old Clinton Hill pharmacy complete with apothecary drawers and rolling ladders right out of Henry Higgins's library is the charming backdrop for this terrific Tuscan restaurant. Two young chefs recruited from Italy turn out uncommon antipasti and salads; main dishes like "il cacciucco" seafood stew; and a wealth of exquisitely sauced pastas like thyme maltagliati with roasted mushrooms. The excellent house wines are sold "consumption"-style. The bottle is left on the table, you help yourself, and whatever's left is theatrically measured with a homemade stick. It's the most fun you can have in a drugstore without a prescription.

Toms All American Classic Dinner
782 Washington Avenue Brooklyn, NY 11238
Eating at Tom’s Restaurant is such a restorative experience that regulars show up hoping to stand in line, where free coffee, orange slices, and cookies are handed out by smiling employees. While the 70-year-old diner retains its old-fashioned, soda-fountain sensibility and hours (they're open only for breakfast and lunch), the recipes are updated to appease the increasingly yuppified Prospect Heights population. Try the harvest pancakes with corn and cranberries, the pumpkin-walnut waffle, or the world’s best crab cakes—not for those with cholesterol troubles, as they’re deep-fried. Leave room for their specialty drinks, including homemade cherry-lime rickey, whipped coffee, or that Brooklyn staple, the egg cream. It can be a long wait on weekend mornings, but once you get in the door, you feel like family.

HOT BIRD BBQ & Little Brother Beer Garden!
546 & 544 Clinton Avenue (between Atlantic Ave & Fulton St)
Brooklyn, NY 11238
http://www.littlebrotherbbq.com/Little_Brother_BBQ/Blank.html
an old auto shop right under one of the old signs into Hot Bird 2.0, a neighborhood bar whose greatest asset is its spacious patio. Surrounded by high walls—a must, seeing as it borders the bustling Atlantic Avenue—and populated by long picnic benches, it's reminiscent of Williamsburg’s Union Pool, only minus the music-venue part and plus an indoor bar space that resembles a low-rent version of a Keith McNally restaurant.

Urban Vintage Boutique & Cafe
294 Grand Avenue
Brooklyn, NY 11238http://urbanvintageny.com/Welcome.html
The place is inviting, warm and full of light. And members of the family make you feel like you are not in New York because they greet you with a smile and take care of you. An antique sofa, marble coffee table, and chandelier make you feel like you are in grandma’s living room. Other wooden tables with old-fashioned fans or plants are spread throughout the place to give guest a nice variety of seating options. People with laptops seem to be attracted to the small bar facing the large windows. The place is sometimes very quiet because clients are mindful of noise but if you are lucky you will hear someone playing great tunes on the piano.

Outpost cafe & Lounge
1014 Fulton Street Brooklyn, NY 11238
http://www.outpostlounge.com/
Outpost is perhaps the perfect combination of warmth and functionality. Outdoor seating area is relaxed and beautifully decorated with vegetation, a deck and a wooden entranceway made of tree branches. It feels either like an enchanted forest where Ewoks live, or like the terrain of the final Planet of the Apes movie where the humans and the apes battle for control. Best of all, it’s the first outdoor seating area I’ve found that provides outlets! Inside, DJ tables, local art and varied seating make for perfect place to sit and work on rainy days.
Outpost really feels like it was built to be the perfect coffice.Outpost brews Dean’s Beans, definitely a new contender in the race for best beans. Dean’s is similar to La Colombe body and acidity-wise but its flavor is far more interesting than La Colombe. This is one of my favorite coffees.Outpost’s internet is its one weakness without a doubt, is just slightly less fast than what one needs for a fast reliable internet work. However, since the staff is friendly and they’ve got outdoor electric plugs!Outpost might be the winner of best coffice.

Fulton Grand Pub
1011 Fulton Street Brooklyn, NY 11238
Fulton Grand — and its twelve craft-beer taps — are a welcome addition to the otherwise dry Bed-Stuy/Clinton Hill border. The aesthetic is in line with its sister beer bars, Washington Commons in Prospect Heights and 4th Avenue Pub in Park Slope. There’s black tin ceilings, no television, vintage beer ads on the wall and — wait for it — a taxidermy deer bust. But the group of owners has placed more attention on the rotating beer selection — affordable Belgians, seasonal specialties, independent breweries — than the décor. The result is a mixed crowd of die-hard beer drinkers thrilled to see Weihenstephaner hefeweizen on tap and those just trying to figure out how to pronounce it. It’s not uncommon to overhear someone say, “I’ve never heard of any of these beers,” and ask for a recommendation—which the bartender will happily supply.
